ROOTDOWN

16 Dec 09

We used to…

In the late 60s and early 70s in the South Bronx all you saw was busted burnt down buildings, poverty, people on their hard grind. The atmosphere was very bleak, it was depressing. But even after all that you still had the bboy reppin the cypher for the first time and without words he said “this is my shit, fuck with it” some people wear their hearts on their sleeve, he wore his heart with his style. Thats real soul.

Hip hop came from nothing, it’s funny how people look at the lower class and think not one possible idea in their mind could be anything of relevance. Root down is a testament, some of us do this for a hobby, some of us this is all we know.

Do you remember what it was like to hit your first bboy cypher? write your first verse? get your first beat machine,?or do you remember when you first heard “Around The Way Girl? For those who know what I’m talking about…vibe with me. For those that don’t…I hope you experience true love one time in your life.

Music is tangible. It’s one of the only things we can keep with you forever. Hold it and no one it ever drill it out of your mind.  Music is memories. Music is life. Music is love.
